Cloth Diapers and Downy

Mr. Bean washed our daughter’s cloth diapers with Downy. Not Downy WITH detergent, just Downy. Oh by the way, I cloth diaper my 4 month old daughter. I’ve been told I’m crazy, but so far I’ve had great success with them. Who knows, once solid foods are introduced I may grow to hate cloth diapers, but for now they work for us. Quinoa Stuffed Avocados & Daily Workout

Baby Bean is at such a fun stage right now. Goofy faces and adorable pretend play, mimicking sounds and words she hears, and singing songs! It’s just too much cuteness for one house. That being said, she has also been displaying lovely dramatic tantrums, slapping, throwing objects, and refusing to eat. I can’t say those new skills are my favorites, but hey, you take the bad with the good, right? Plus, everyone keeps telling me she’s preparing me for the Terrible Two’s and Three’s **gulp**! Seafood Stew & Workout

Do you ever plan a meal, shop for it, prep it and cook it, only to not be in the mood for it when you’re done?

Yeah… That was me today. I just don’t know what my problem was. I mean, I was busy with my projects, chores, running to the bank and the produce market, and I guess I didn’t pay much attention to my body telling me to relax and eat. So I just snacked all day. No real nutritious meals. So by dinner time I was so filled up on junk that this lovely dish I put together was completely unappealing to me.

Mr. Bean asked if I was joining him for dinner, but I really didn’t feel like it. He really didn’t want to eat alone, so he asked me to please make a small bowl and sit with him. I obliged, and I’m glad he asked me to, because once I finally had a bite, I remembered why tonight was Seafood Stew night. Because it’s just so darn good! Why would I say “No” to this hearty, healthy, flavorful stew?

See it’s amazing what junk food does to my body. It steers me in the wrong direction and really does ruin my appetite! All those years Mom was right… but can’t let her know that! LOL
So anyway, back to this yummy Seafood Stew. I found this recipe on BenderFitness.com, but of course, I tweaked it to fit my taste. It calls for shrimp and tilapia, but this would be great with all sorts of other seafood. I’ve also used broccoli instead of zucchini and it’s been just as delicious!

Seafood Stew
prep time: 15 minutes
cook time: 30 minutes
serves: 6
recipe slightly adapted from BenderFitness.com

 

Ingredients

1 tbsp olive oil

1 28 ounce can of diced tomatoes

1/2 cup veggie broth
1 cup onion, diced
2 large zucchini, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
4 4oz tilapia fillets, cubed (or fish of choice, crab, mussels, clams are all good options)
1lb uncooked shelled & deveined shrimp
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
choice of hot sauce (optional)
In a large pot, add olive oil and turn heat to medium high. Add onion, zucchini, and garlic and sauté for 5 minutes, or until veggies begin to sweat. Add tomatoes, broth, and spices and bring to a boil. Then add shrimp and tilapia. Lower heat to medium low and simmer for 20 minutes. Serve over brown rice or quinoa. Enjoy!

I increased my speed a little for this workout, so I used my 5 lb dumbbells, and instead of the “deadlift high pulls” I subbed “man-makers” because I did deadlifts and high pulls the day before. I know it’s only 12 minutes, but I jumped rope for 5 minutes before and after. Nice little cardio sesh! When I get stronger I will double the workout instead. Honestly I HATE plain ol’ cardio. It’s just so boring.

WOW what a game! I’m pretty sure we all knew we had that one after the 4th goal? LOL I’m being a sore winner 😛

Baby Bean did let me watch some of the game. How nice of her, huh? You know, having a 4 month old, it’s hard to get things done. Don’t get me wrong, it’s WAY easier than when she was first born, but she’s not the best napper in the world, so it’s hard for me to gauge how long she will sleep and how much I can get done. So as I told you guys, we’re almost done with our baseboards, but my job (sanding, caulking, and painting) has been delayed due to my playful daughter. Exercise

It’s been hard getting back into my fitness regimen. While I was pregnant (and before) I worked out 5-6 days a week. And when I say “work out”, I don’t mean walking and yoga (even though those are great exercises). I mean box jumping, lifting weights, jumping rope, pull ups, etc. If I had the money, I would have joined Cross Fit. No I’m not muscular, but I’ve always wanted to be strong and healthy AND benefit my growing baby. Continue reading Exercise

Tough Days & Workout

There are times when I know the day is not going to be my day. Pushing snooze on my alarm too many times (cutting into my workout time), performing poorly for said workout, forgetting to shave my legs in the shower (or cutting myself while shaving!), my daughter waking up cranky, Mr. Bean spending the whole morning in the bathroom doing his “business” (which is actually the norm, but on bad days it’s just so much more annoying), Baby Bean throwing every bite of her breakfast at our dog, the dog nonstop yapping at the lawnmowers at the neighbor’s house… And this is all before 8:30AM! Fish Tacos & Baseboards

Hey guys! Today we are working on our baseboards in the living room and dining room areas, and a couple bedrooms, too. It’s actually been the easiest project for us so far. And we thought it was going to be tough! Go figure, Mr. Bean is a natural 🙂 We learned how to cope corners through this helpful tutorial:

Buffalo Baked Potato Casserole

   bean toothIf you can believe it, our Baby Bean sprouted some teeth! And she’s not even 5 months yet! With the risk of being slapped in the face by fellow parents, I will say that I had NO IDEA she was teething. No signs or symptoms, no fussiness (no more than usual), and no sleepless nights!
**please don’t hurt me!**

Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Pancakes

Good morning! My goodness it is HOT and HUMID today in Florida! I did want to try and grab some sun at the beach with Mr. Bean and Baby Bean today, but there are SHARKS IN THE WATER!!!
No kidding:  30-40 Sharks Spotted Off Martin County Coast
So I guess I’ll work on some house projects. Today I’ll try to finish filling and painting all the little nail holes in those darn baseboards, but the bulk of my day will probably be spent doing laundry 🙁
